This weekend’s class trip to Manitou Springs was my
first experience in the quaint little town that sits in the shadow of Pikes
Peak’s foot hills. I have to say for my first time visiting, it was a pleasant
surprise and a different experience. Manitou offers a variety of artisan shops
as well as unique shops that would attract the interest of any out of town of
first time visitors; there is something for everybody’s interest. We found our
way into several shops, and I particularly enjoyed the Everyday is Christmas
shop and the Glass blowing shop. Christmas in July is always enjoyable for
those who love the holidays and the glass artwork found in the Glass shop was
breath taking to say the least.
As
you walk your way down the streets of Manitou Springs, all types of unique
artwork saturates the town. There is literally some form of artwork around
every corner. The town is really known for its artwork that lines the streets
and is probably one of the major attractions of the town. From the replicated
art to natural formations such as the creek that runs through the city, it
forms a nice blend of art that enriches the culture of Manitou Springs. The public
art reflects that culture of the town and helps bring in revenue from the
tourists and fuels the town well. Artists from all over the country love to have
their art on display here for the tourists. I think that by our taking digital
photographs of the town help to advertise the uniqueness and the attraction
that Manitou gives, and constructs it for the better. It is like our
photographs help spread the word to bring business and customers to the town,
it is really cool. I also like the fact that Manitou Springs seems to run
entirely on the business of mom-and-pop stores, there are no major franchises
in the town that would pose a threat to small business or run them out, which
is nice because you don’t see that much anymore.
