Florissant: Spec of Dust in Comparison

IMG #2: Felt like a lonely cloud among all of the others.
IMG #4: Time does not heal all wounds.
IMG #5: One of my favorite locations to climb.
IMG #11:  Such a beautiful location.  Great to layout and watch the clouds.

While walking around this section of Florissant it reminds me that we are such a small part of Earth’s history.  Fossilized insects and redwoods are a great reminder that despite our amassed knowledge, and assumed mastery of nature we are small in comparison.  My mind wanders at these times and I cannot help but feel smaller.  We, being man, can harness such power, but water, time and wind can still do things which we cannot.  Our only powers over nature are to destroy, enjoy, and preserve.

The tour of Florissant made me reflect to a time which was over-run with large beasts, and strange insects.  Reminiscent of current Colorado Springs, the smoke in the background was an ominous atmosphere.  As beasts would scour the land, their heads barely breaking the tree line, they could see the blown-top of the billowing volcano.  Little would these beasts, and insects know, that another form of strange beast would be peering at them, and into the past.
