Story

                                                           Anthony’s Manitou Adventure

Anthony, a foreign exchange student of UCCS from Nigeria is visiting Colorado for the first time. His roommate and roommate friends mentioned a place called Manitou. Anthony already having to adjust to a new place is challenged right away to see a new place different from Colorado Springs. One of the first evidence of the town Anthony picked up on was the statues. Anthony seen statues everywhere and imagined he was an art gallery everywhere he went.

He came across an old army canon and daydreamed that he was a General in the United States Army. Anthony roommate waved his hand in front of his face and yelled “Anthony wake up! What are you doing day dreaming? Anthony smiled at his roommate and was ready to continue their adventure again.

They then stumbled upon a tree house with a face carved at the top of it. He imagined the face starting to talk urging Anthony that he must see more of the town.

Next feature to catch his eye was a big purple bike. He imaged getting on top of it and riding through the town waving at everyone he saw.

Anthony was so amazed at what he saw he couldn’t believe how di
fferent Manitou was from where they stayed at UCCS. Still amazed by everything that was around him, Anthony seen a dragon. Anthony had never seen such a stature before. He thought it was one of the greatest pieces of art he had seen so far. He imaged the dragon coming to live and growing in to a huge sized so then the dragon was looking down at him. With one wing, the dragon flipped Anthony on to his back. The dragon flew around Manitou showing Anthony the town from a distance. The dragon then left Manitou and showed Anthony the rest of Colorado. Anthony was so touched on what he saw. Although he day dreamed most of the time, with what Anthony saw he found it easy to turn everything around him into like a fairytale because of all the creativity of public art in Manitou. Everything was so different from back home. Anthony’s trip to Manitou gave Anthony the impression that Colorado was an amazing place and with this one trip, Anthony was destined to go and explore the rest of the United States.

  1. Great story, Janee. It was a very intimate narrative told by a person seeing Manitou for the first time ever and the possibilities the town inspires. Well-done!
