Animal poem

Encounters in the Night

He lays in the dark
thinking about the day past.
He wonders and ponders,
and worries and surmises.

He rouses to a peculiar sound.
As He rises from his tormented state of mind,
He feels a flutter past his senses.

A grey, brown Wretch wanders aimlessly in the dark.
He finds his light
and suddenly the Monster finds something to aim his flight.

As the gleam makes the shadows dance away,
the Meddler feeds on its brilliance.

He rises to His feet,
timidly at first.
He thinks how strange it is to fear
such a small, delicate, harmless thing.

He raises his hand to end the dastardly Fiend's flight.
As He is about to deal the ending blow,
He notices a shimmer.
He waits and curiosity overtakes Him.

The drab, dull Trespasser stares
with his many eyes into His.

He thinks of the minute likelihood
of this small, helpless Beast
finding his way here,
to find its end, purely because of the crime of its trespass.

He thinks of others like this Interloper
out there in the dark of night.
He thinks about how nobody understands the ANIMAL KINGDOM.
Especially Him.

He feels pity but knows what must be done.
The villainous Miscreant slowly folds out his wings,
ready to flutter about once again.

In a flash of speed and cold fury
the Intruder's aimless life ends.

The darkness encloses once more,
and He returns to his sleepless night.

(I chose to do a poem of an animal I have no love for at all. I hope that is alright.)
