Florissant Experience:

Walking the grounds of ancient Florissant, Colorado puts life in an entirely new perspective.  A life that is more at peace with the ever-changing nature that is planet Earth.  I found myself in trance of the story of nature's path here in Florissant.  A story of what life once was, a notion of destruction, and a concept of rebirth that I was witnessing. In the present Florissant, amongst the new aspen seedlings and plethora of "typical" breathtaking Colorado scenery, one is reminded of the once tropical, and now foreign climate that once was. Unraveling the true story of Florissant as I walked through the surroundings of these ancient grounds. 

My trip to Florissant truly put in perspective how nature constantly changes, and many times all that remains are memories.  Viewing the petrified tree stumps, I am reminded of what once was.  Looking at the new aspen seedlings, I recognize what now is.  Change is imminent and unavoidable.  Hearing the truth of Florissant, about the volcanic activity that reversed an entire way of life and only left reminders of what once was is a remarkable story of an area's natural condition. 

Though much change has plagued the area, Florissant continues to thrive even after such destruction of it's once plentiful environment.  Hiking the trails, I am astounded by the bountiful life that exists.  Birds chirp, chipmunks and squirrels scammer, and the trees sing in the wind.   A much different experience than many years ago when a description would require insects crawling, moisture hanging in the air, and different flora occupying my amazement.
